[IC]

Hugging this character: Sure!
Kissing this character: Go for it!
Flirting with this character: Heck yeah!
Fighting with this character: Sure! Let's communicate OOCly.
Injuring this character: Probably, but ask first.
Killing this character: Definitely ask first.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: He has some defenses against this (trained by Batman, there's no way they didn't practice) but he's only human, so probably. You might not be able to get very much.

Powers:

One of Dick's powers is that his domino mask actually works to hide his identity, since there is no way that nineties hair wouldn't give him away otherwise. It's a lowgrade psychic suggestion which makes anyone who doesn't already know his secret identity through other means completely convinced he looks nothing like Dick Grayson. Characters with actual psychic powers/psychic resistance may be able to see through it, so hit me up if you want to plot with that!

Warnings:

Batman the Animated Series is a kid's show, but it does occasionally delve into dark places, especially with murder and crime. If there's anything you want me to avoid mentioning, or if you'd rather opt out of Dick tags for any other reason, feel free to let me know here. Comments are screened.

CHARACTER NAME: Dick Grayson
CHARACTER AGE: mid-twenties
SERIES: DC Animated Universe
CHRONOLOGY: post-Gotham Adventures #60
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: randomize me, please!

BACKGROUND: wiki link!

PERSONALITY: Dick Grayson was once Robin, the Boy Wonder. He was known for having a quip ready at every opportunity and wearing bright colors. He and Batman were partners, brought together by tragedy and united in ass kicking. But that was a long time ago. Dick got older, and his tension with Bruce eventually reached a breaking point and he struck out on his own. Now, he’s Nightwing. A little darker, a lot cooler, and still ready with a quip.

But even as Nightwing, he’s one of the friendlier and more approachable members of the Batfamily. He likes people. He’s a circus boy born and bred, and you can’t have witty banter without someone to banter off of. Not that it stops him from trying. He also likes the competitive edge being around others can bring out, and how much easier things are in a team. He’s worked alone, of course, both as Robin and as Nightwing, but he was Batman’s partner before anything else. Being a dynamic duo is more natural than flying solo. Whether in costume or out of costume, he’s protective and caring. Even if he doesn’t always want to show it. He was raised by the Batman. He can brood with the best of them.

He has a tendency to be showy and a certain grace that comes from his circus past and never quite left him. He likes being the center of attention and showing off, and he’s good at what he does. He’s serious and committed to saving people, so he doesn’t really let it distract him, but if you can save someone or save someone with style, why not go for the style? He’s a little more daring than he should be and loves adrenalin, especially, the adrenalin that comes from freefall. He was born a Flying Grayson and he hasn’t stopped being one, even if his circus appearances are few and far between. Whether it’s swinging between buildings or using the wings in his costume to glide, he enjoys showing gravity who’s boss.

He does have a temper, and it comes out especially often around Batman. Bruce is Dick’s father in all ways that count, but it’s complicated. For one, Bruce isn’t just Dick’s guardian. He’s also Batman, and Batman and Robin are partners. Batman may be in charge, but he relies on Robin in many ways and exactly how much responsibility and trust he should put in Dick is a point of contention, especially as Dick ages. It doesn’t help that neither one of them is exceptionally good at communicating (but especially Bruce) so a lot of things that could be solved with a conversation end up festering. Bruce makes very big decisions without consulting Dick, like telling Barbara Gordon their secret identities, while Dick earlier that very day had resisted telling her. Bruce is secretive and distant and not emotionally supportive and it turns out that raising a child like that is a good way to give that child issues. You cannot punch emotions. Everyone in the Bat-family has tried.

Dick is enormously stubborn, partly, again, because of his upbringing, but also just cause that’s who he is. Bruce pushes him away and tells him not to come on missions, and Dick proceeds to completely ignore his orders and follow Batman so he can come save him in the knick of time. To his credit, he’s usually not as much of a, well, asshole about this as he could be. Dick’s transformation to Nightwing is another example of his stubbornness at work. He spent years away training and traveling and growing his hair out rather than relying on Bruce, and when he came back to Gotham, it was on his own terms, as his own hero. He had gained enough distance and wisdom that he was even pretty accepting of the new Robin, though he still had a lot of tension with Batman.

But he is capable of changing his mind. When evidence arises that Bruce does care, even if he’s really bad at showing it, Dick does soften towards him and manages to go back to working with him. He is loyal to his friends, and while he might not forget the ways they’ve let him down or hurt him, he still cares and tries to understand them. He sees Bruce not bothering to check in on him when he’s injured as faith in Tim’s abilities rather than disregard for Dick’s own health. He’s had a whole lot of time to come to grips with who Bruce is as a person. He might not always like it, but he does understand it.

POWER: In canon, Dick has no powers. For game, this is what I’m giving him:

Domino Mask - Dick has extremely distinctive hair, especially since this is no longer the nineties for anyone else. Between that and his general sense of humor and acrobatic manor both in and out of the mask, it should be extremely obvious to anyone who sees him that Dick and Nightwing are the same person. However, he’s got a passive power of telepathic suggestion that makes any disguise extremely effective. While it’s hard to put your finger on what it is that makes Dick Grayson and Nightwing so obviously different, it’s clear they couldn’t possibly be the same person. This extends to any wigs or other disguises he might put on. If you already know his secret identity through other means, the power ceases to work on you.

Circus Princess - animals traditionally associated with circuses (elephants, lions, horses, dogs, etc) come to his aide when he’s in need. He can’t exactly talk to them, but they seem to understand him and will do whatever they can to help him.

FINAL NOTES: I apologize for all the jokes about his name in advance.
